SBA microloan intermediaries, FY2017 → FY2026

Program context: SBA microloans are loans up to $50K made via nonprofit intermediaries — mission lenders and CDFIs that relend SBA funds to the smallest businesses. Who are those intermediaries, and how has their lending moved across ten years? Volume and growth leaderboards, FY2026 year-to-date standings, the industry mix of 4,614 FY2025 microloans, and a New York close-up — all computed from the SBA’s official Microloan Lender Detail reports, with the industry Segment Detail reports as a to-the-cent cross-check. Methodology & sources

  • Official Microloan Lender Detail reports. Every intermediary figure on this page comes from the SBA’s Microloan Lender Detail reports for FY2017 through FY2026 year-to-date, retrieved August 8, 2026. FY2026 figures are partial-year — they are shown as standings only, and no growth is computed against them.
  • Segment cross-check, to the cent. The SBA also publishes Microloan Segment Detail reports (per-industry totals). As part of every build, each fiscal year’s Lender Detail totals are reconciled against that year’s Segment Detail sums — loans and dollars, exact to the cent. Across all ten fiscal years the two report families reconcile exactly, with zero mismatches.
  • Lender names appear as SBA publishes them. No deduplication is applied. Where SBA’s own files list an intermediary under more than one name (for example, an entity and its DBA appearing as separate rows with identical figures), both rows appear here as published — the same duplication exists in both report families, so the cross-check is unaffected.
  • Growth window. FY2021 → FY2025 growth compares two full fiscal years of the same report family — the same window as this site’s other growth boards. An intermediary with no FY2021 activity is chipped “No FY2021 activity” and its percentage growth is left blank — percent change is undefined from a zero baseline, and a “new in FY2025” label would be false for lenders that appeared mid-window.
  • Concentration. FY2025 microloan dollars are concentrated at the top of the intermediary list: the top 10 intermediaries account for 30.31% of the year’s approved dollars, and the top 25 for 55.04%.
  • Related state-level series. The SBA’s Approvals by Congressional District report carries its own state-level Microloan series — the basis of the state table on our district page. That is a different report basis, and its program totals differ slightly from the Lender Detail basis used here.
  • Name matching. Intermediaries are tracked by exact name and state across the ten years. There is no fuzzy matching: an intermediary that renamed or reports under a dba appears as separate series.
  • Approved dollars, not disbursements. Figures are SBA-approved microloan counts and dollars as reported. Approvals are a proxy for lending activity — some approved loans are later canceled or never fully disbursed.
